Sabroso Festival Returns for 2018

Happy Sunday, folks!  With a new year comes new events and one extremely fun gathering that is returning this year is the Sabroso Craft Bera, Taco, and Music Festival.  This awesome festival debuted last year to great fanfare and success, and we even wrote a review of the event.

The festival is back for another year and has actually expanded to several cities across the western United States.  This celebration of beer, tacos, lucha libre wrestling, and rock music returns to Doheny State Beach, in Dana Point in south Orange County this year, rocking the shoreline on Saturday, April 7.  But it will also hit other cities across California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado.

Last year's Sabroso Fest was a huge hit among a multitude of fans.

Last year's event was really quite a terrific production.  Surprisingly well organized for a first time festival (the Sabroso Festival had existed as a taco and hot sauce event before, but never as a major music and food fest), with dozens of taco trucks, complimentary tastings of over a hundred different beers included with admission, outrageously entertaining professional wrestling, and high energy rock music, Sabroso Festival was a dream for anyone looking to have a great, rocking time.  And this year promises more of the same.

Free beer tastings were available starting at noon for VIP guests and 1:00pm for general admission guests until 4:00pm.

There were plenty of fantastic taco trucks on hand selling a huge assortment of delicious food.

Fans of The Offspring and Pennywise should not miss this intimate festival event (intimate by music festival standards).  And in an age where rock seems to be dying at major music festivals, Sabroso keeps the genre alive and well with its riff-driven line-up.

The Offspring rocked the headlining slot at Sabroso Fest last year. They're back this year and joined by fellow punk icons Pennywise.

Tickets are already on sale now and can be accessed from the Sabroso Festival web site.  Tickets for the Southern California event start at $55.50 plus fees, with VIP set at $109.00 plus fees.  Last year, we found the VIP to be completely worth the extra cost, since the hour early entry provided valuable time to try plenty of beer tastings without massive lines (especially helpful, since the beer tastings only ran until 4:00pm for obvious D.U.I. deterrence reasons).  We plan on being there again this year, and you should totally go too!

Produced by California’s most successful and respected craft beer festival producer Brew Ha Ha Productions and premier music festival production company Synergy Global Entertainment (SGE), most dates of Sabroso will also feature craft beer tastings (until 4:00 P.M.) from some of the best breweries in the country. The region’s top chefs and restaurants will serve delectable tacos and attendees can enjoy Lucha Libre style wrestling, lawn games, contests, and more. Beer tastings will vary by city according to local alcohol laws and restrictions.

During VIP early entry tastings (from Noon – 4:00 P.M.), and general admission tastings (from 1:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.), craft beer lovers that are 21+ can sample over 100 craft beers from the finest breweries in the nation. At each festival date, the taco creations will compete for the coveted Sabroso “Best Of Show,” awarded by a panel of highly acclaimed and pre-selected food judges.

Attendees are also invited to sample all flavors of Gringo Bandito--Dexter Holland of The Offspring’s top rated hot sauce—during the event.

Lucha Libre style wrestling stars from across the globe will take to the ring battling for the title of Sabroso Champion. There will be multiple qualifying wrestling matches throughout each festival day and one final championship match at each show.

For each ticket purchased, $0.50 will be donated to a charity in the local festival market.

Lucha libre wrestling was in fast action. Fun fact: one of these two is actually "Evil," leader of the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor slider group.

At last year’s sold out Sabroso Craft Beer, Taco & Music Festival powered by Gringo Bandito at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA, 8,500 attendees gathered under the California sunshine for an afternoon of complimentary craft beer tasting with over 40 of the best breweries from Southern California and beyond, gourmet street tacos and more. Lucha Libre style wrestlers competed throughout the day as the waves of the Pacific crashed behind their beachside ring, and professional eaters, including world champion Takeru Kobayashi, took to the stage before The Offspring’s performance for the 7th Annual Gringo Bandito Chronic Tacos Challenge. While runner-up Molly Schuyller, European champion Jesse Pynnönen, and others devoured tacos at an astonishing pace, Kobayashi stole the show by downing 159 tacos in 10 minutes – shattering his own 2015 record of 144 tacos.

Kobayashi demolished his competition in the taco eating competition.
